Press Release - October 2000

UNVEILING IN OCTOBER
This year's Big Day Out introduced Alice Springs' band NoKTuRNL as the first ever unsigned band to be included on the renowned National tour. Gaining interest from record companies during this time, NoKTuRNL eventually signed to Sputnik (through Festival/Mushroom) and released their debut Ep Neva Mend, featuring Triple J / Alternative radio favourites 'Neva Mend' and 'New Era'.

In such a short space of time, the band has cemented their own brand of hip-hop, metal and hardcore sounds into the Australian music scene and have proven to be one of this country's most exciting new bands.

Kicking off on October 9 is the release of the band's long-awaited follow up EP 'UNVEILED'. The 5 track disc features the awesome hiphopmetalcore track 'Same Old Song' which has already been added to Triple J high rotation. Ross Clelland from Sydney's DRUM MEDIA has described 'Same Old Song' with "…it's thick and thinking noise suggesting the band have taken another step forward and could be something genuinely culturally as well as musically important." Look out for the very colourful & trippy video for 'Same Old Song' (at TV w/c Oct 2), shot in Alice Springs by Melbourne independent film maker Tina Gonsalves (who previously worked with Savage Garden and Yothu Yindi). It'll blow your mind !

The release of the Ep ties in nicely with other October happening's :

Channel V are running an hour long documentary on the band which will air on Monday October 16 @ 7.30pm. The V crew shot footage of the band in Alice Springs over a weekend in August, which includes NoKTuRNL playing live as support to Midnight Oil and more. Check it out !!!

The Pacific Circle Music Convention have invited NoKTuRNL to partake in some of their upcoming showcases, with the band playing 2 shows to co-incide : Friday October 20 @ Newtown RSL with Sunk Loto and Saturday October 21 @ The Hordern Pavilion with Killing Heidi. Frontman Craig Tilmoth will also be involved in a PCMC guitar workshop on Sunday October 22.

And to top things off, Festival Mushroom Records would like to wish NoKTuRNL the best of luck as the band have been nominated for four awards at two separate events in October:

THE DEADLY's - The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Music Awards will be held on Monday October 23. Not only will the band perform two songs on the night, they've also been nominated for SINGLE OF THE YEAR and BAND OF THE YEAR. Craig Tilmoth will co-host the awards.

The 14th ANNUAL SCAPE ARIA MUSIC AWARDS will be held on Tuesday October 24. NoKTuRNL have received two ARIA AWARD nominations this year for:
BEST ALTERNATIVE RELEASE - Neva Mend
BEST VIDEO - Neva Mend.

YOU CAN BE SURE TO HEAR A LOT MORE ABOUT NoKTuRNL FROM HERE ON IN.
