Press Release 4 .6.01

NoKTuRNL are returning to the NT for the first time this year
as part of their Haterz Tour. Haterz is the title track of NoKTuRNL's latest single. NoKTuRNL will be performing two shows in Darwin on Saturday the 16th of June and one in Alice Springs on Friday the 22nd of June.

Haterz, the third single in 14 months from NoKTuRNL, gives a big blast to the doubters - those who choose to be lesser. Haterz is the first release for the band since they brought in Paul Kelly as their permanent drummer and 4th member. Kelly (a member of DaMieN's first band) has taken the band's live performances to a new level and allowed the band to faster develop new songs and material.

Since signing with Festival Mushroom Records early in 2000, NoKTuRNL have earned a reputation for being one of the most exciting and fresh Australian acts. Their unique brand of music has become known as Rip Rock - hard hitting music with groove that challenges ignorance. They kicked off to a great start in 2001 with a mind blowing performance at the Sydney Big Day Out plus support for Limp Bizkit at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Since then they have been touring up and down the east coast, enjoying playing to fans where ever they are. They have just completed 18 dates with Superheist and will conclude their 6 date Haterz tour in their home town of Alice Springs.

NoKTuRNL received two ARIA nominations for their debut single Neva Mend, which also featured the tracks New Era and No Respect. The film clip of Neva Mend was Channel V's 'Ripe' clip of the week and seemed to crop up everywhere else you looked. Both Neva Mend and New Era received extensive radio play and the songs were also included on a number of compilation albums. Neva Mend also featured in the recent TV drama series 'Love is a Four Letter Word'.

October 2000 saw NoKTuRNL's second release - the 5 song CD Unveiled. Unveiled received rave reviews: Patrick Donovan of the Melbourne Age felt the release marked NoKTuRNL 'as the quintessential Australian 21st Century band'. Not surprisingly Unveiled and other tracks on the CD, Just B…and Same Old Song, received good radio coverage. Same Old Song and The Playa Part 1, have also been included on a number of compilation albums.

NoKTuRNL will be playing in Darwin as part of Original Recipe - Darwins' Contemporary Music Festival. Both shows will be at Beachcombers at the Top End Hotel., the first between 4 and 7 pm is an under 18's show. Supporting NoKTuRNL at both shows will be Jodi Cockatoo-Creed and Band, and leon spurling.

Jodi Cockatoo-Creed is best known as a singer with Yothu Yindi. This band allows her to return to her rock and roll roots and dance to her own music. These will be her last performances in Darwin for some time. leon spurling music has been described as somewhere between the wistfulness of Crowded House and the downhome feel of Wilco.

Leon will also be a guest at the Alice Springs show at the Todd Tavern on Friday the 22nd of June. Also on the bill in Alice will be DJ Megawatty. Entrance to both evening shows will be $12 and for the under 18's show in Darwin entrance will be $6.
