Haterz Tour 2001

.....I thrashed out so hard, I nearly broke my neck

Friday 22nd, Todd Tavern, Alice Springs:
What can I say but, I Hate This Town!!! ( Hence our single "Haterz").
Seriously, if it wasn't for this gig, I don't think I would have left Darwin as I can't stand being here anymore.

The show was great, 136 payers and everyone who did come seemed to have a great time. Even though the extra sub woofers didn't turn up, Naut still pulled a killer sound that plastered many punters against the wall. Thankyou to the people who did come to see us, we are most appreciative of your support. I hope you can come to one of our gigs elsewhere.

Still more advertising is needed, even though Leon, Tracy and myself put posters up in every known place possible, the stuck up pricks in this town still found enough "Hate" inside them to rip the fuckers down! So, a big "Fuck You" goes out to the poor inbred scum that did that.

If you were taking them down for yourself, to keep, No Worries, but if you were taking them down because you were either told to, or just didn't agree with it, because of you, I never want to play here again and hopefully I never have to!!

Saturday 16th June, Beachcombers, Darwin:
What a journey!! This would have to be one of the craziest trips to date.
We were about 100km out of Darwin when we passed a convoy of trucks and the driver's side window smashed in our faces.

Anyway, we got to Darwin safely and I had an awesome night with Dave and Bill from Larrakia FM. I was supposed to go in to the studios for an interview on their show "Blue Thunder". After the interview I thought, fuck it, I may as well hang around and help take requests and program the show with the lads as I am sick of being cooped up in shoebox hotel rooms all the time. The gigs were great, although I don't think there was anywhere near enough promotion for both gigs.

The night started off with local Alice Spring's talent leon spurling, who got the audience listening and thinking with his vast repertoire of his crafty lyrical shootouts. With a talent second to none, I couldn't help hearing the rest of the band's parts in my head. Still, with the rest of the musicians not present with Leon at this show, I could not help but groove along to favourites "Alcoholic Life" and "Lazy".

Up next was Jody Cockatoo and her group. It has been a while since I have seen Jody perform, and this being her first gig with a new band, Jody didn't fail to impress. Trying to approach her music in a different way to the style of Yothu Yindi, I think there is future prospects for her after Yothu.

What can I say about us? um, yeah we kicked ass once again (not meaning to blow my own trumpet, but,). I just wish people would support original music instead of cover bands all the fucking time!!!

I had a great time Saturday night, I went out with James from scapegoat project and caught up with some old friends, not to mention the great perve we got at the Miss Indy Girls ( OHH YEAHH!! ). Thanks for the lift home James and hope we can catch up some time in the near future.

I love Darwin, the city rocks, people are great and the weather this time of year is great for frolicking around naked anywhere you may go!!!

Final Word
Although this tour was short lived compared to the previous tour with Superheist, it was not as easy for us as expected. There were many differences on this tour compared to the last one.

For Eg:
We started off with the show in Canberra at the Gypsy Bar, which was the first headline show for us after a national support. So, it felt weird in a few distinct ways. After supporting for sometime your body clock runs in a completely different state to what you would if you are the headline act. This is because of the amount of sleep that you get prior to the performance.

Another key factor is, because you are the "Headline Act", you will most likely be busy most of the day, you soundcheck first, you soundcheck longer and then you leave.(That's if you dont get left behind)!! If you are the support, you tend to find yourself waiting longer for a soundcheck , which all depends on the headline act of course.

Putting all that aside, apart from the sleep depravation and constant PR we were doing, which we all enjoy coz we all love talking so much. I'm actually glad to say that we didnt tour for too long this time as we had already been on the road for 4 months and a break away from each other is a good thing. Especially if you are subject to the same conditions we tour by.

What more can I really say, we are all back in Alice Springs now, and have a show coming up in Darwin this Thursday. I cant wait, as we haven't even been here a whole day, and I want to get back on the road already. That's just the way I feel though, as I am positive the other guys are happy to have a break from being near one another for so long.

I will leave with one note. You can all expect an album from us soon, as we are going to use this time we have off wisely. So we can construct some new shit and different styles and piece them together to form what will be our Debut Album. Sorry, No previews though, until we feel good and ready.

See You All Soon and Take Care...

Saturday 9th June, Holdfast Hotel, Adelaide:
UUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGLLLHHHHH,
That's what I felt like doing after such a big night. Funny thing was, I wasn`t hungover at all. Lucky I`m still young. (He, he, he)

Anyway, we left Melbourne early and got to Adelaide in record time.
Arrived at the gig at about 8:00pm and didnt have to play until 10:30, but sticking around to see the first band "Dial" was good. They are four piece alternative punk band from Adelaide and they did remind a bit of Bodyjar, which doesn't mean to say they weren`t original with their tunes. They came up with a few impressive numbers in their set that I found quite enjoyable. They had a mad ass Bass sound. Maybe it was that Bloody Rickenbacker!!! (Got to get me one of those)
Thanks' Matt (Bass/lead vocals) for letting me use your cabinets, I managed to get a rocking beefy sound out of those fuckers.

I must say we played a pretty good set that night, even though we were all starting to fail something shocking. Especially Paul Bag, its time you had a rest mate, and we are glad that's it for another couple of days.

To cut a long story short (Cause I blabbed so much about the Punters etc.), we went out on another bender. In Adelaide this time, and we all met some very interesting people indeed. I somehow managed to get split up from the group, and found myself cruising around with some people I had never met before, but felt as though I had known them my whole life (WEIRD).

Anyway, thankyou Amy, for your hospitality and to your friends for giving me a ride as I had no idea where I was or what I was doing. It is to be hoped that you can come to our gig next time we are in town. If you do manage to read this then dont hesitate to e-mail me at: info@nokturnl.com, so you can at least be a guest of the band.
That goes for any of you who are reading this. Even if you dont like what I have to say, I dont give a shit, just give us some feedback on what you think or whatever!!! Email Us .....I will reply to everyone.

Friday 8th June, Punters Club, Melbourne:
I was a little disappointed at this gig. This was because there was a guest list of 130, 100 payers, and nearly everyone showed up late (as usual). Oh well!!

The evening got off to a kick ass start with one of my favourite Aussie rock bands, Elephant Gun. They make a good blend of Hard emo/Stoner rock with a few spices thrown in to finish off their awesome set. Not only were they the tightest band on the night, they had bugger all people there watching. Which pissed me off a little, as I believe their performance deserved a bigger audience.

After Elephant Gun finished, it was time for Warped to give the ever growing crowd an ear blasting. These guys are fairly new to me, although they have been around for nearly ten years. It took me a while to get into there shit, until I saw them live. A bunch of mad pricks if you ask me. (I mean that in a good way) and I really like their rendition of Kiss "Parasite". Ben, Chris and Brett are all cool guys and I reckon they played a kick ass set that night. Although, when it was time to get our own shit on the stage, I was forever picking up shit that they left behind. eg:
Pieces of the ceiling from which one of the lads had stuck there axe through! We managed to whip up a good 1hr and 10 min set, playing some of the old shit and some freshies as well.

Had a great night and after trying to get out of there for what seemed like years, we (all 10 of us) made our way out to Revolver, where FMR was holding a function. It turned out quite funny as, only Craig T and myself were on the door list. This left the other 8 in the group wondering what the hell they were going to do, but since I had a few drinks, and was sparked up. I started sweet talking the people on the door. I managed to work them over with some bullshit story posing as an imposter, as one of the FMR staff. (name withheld)
They complied and we were on our way upstairs when we got to the entry, and were refused. I turned around and Bumped into someone whom I hadn't seen for a while who I idolise totally. He is the best Hip Hop artist to walk this planet, it was King Kapisi and sidekick DJ RAW, and it was their function after playing with Regurgitator at The Corner Hotel that night. I told him what was going on and he helped us out big time (Much Appreciated Bill). The funny thing is, we were only there for about half an hour or so, grabbed Charlie and got the fuck outta there to go and chill out and obliterate ourselves at Club 161. What a fuckin` awesome night thanks to all the staff at FMR, and everyone else for coming to the gig and thankyou Parisi for a Kickass night.

Saturday 2nd June, Annandale Hotel, Sydney:
One of the best venues in Sydney.
Great room, excellent monitors and decent size stage. It was good to see the guys from One Dollar Short again, as we are fans of their music. A big thanks goes out to our mate Elliot, who is a sales rep for a surf clothing company called Rietveld. Cheers man, I cant believe you keep on coming through with the goods. Bring it on, Rietveld is the shit!!!

We had a good show and the crowd was having a ball. Although, I don't think the people who owned the system were too pleased with us as one side ceased to work during our set. Well, heres a big UP YOURS to whoever owns that box of snot cause the Annandale is a good pub, and I don't think it should be degraded as a venue because of someones stingy piece of shit sound system.

Maybe some regular attention and service to the shit you own will prove more reliable next time. Come On Son!!!

Apart from the night ending in such a kerfuffle, we all went out with some of the Festival/Mushroom team and had a bit of a blinder. Next time Deckland and myself might have a bit of luck trying to pick up as I think we were a bit on the pissed side!!

Thanks again everyone, we will see you all very soon.

Friday 1st June, Northpoint Tavern, Sydney:
I don't know what it is about this venue but, if your not the headline act, it sucks something major. This is because of the insufficient room supplied for storage of equipment, one band room, and loading in and out is a prick.
Now I`ve got that off my chest…

Anyway, the night wasn't as bad as we thought it may have been, the reason for this is, last time we played here, there was bugger all people and some of our equipment wasn't working.

117 payers and a great crowd, we managed to give everyones ears a good beating!! And considering my neck was fucked, we kicked ass!!
We threw a few of the new tracks into the set, which got a great response from the crowd.

Haterz Single Launch Tour 2001

Thursday 31st May, Gypsy Bar, Canberra:

The first show for us since the short break after the Superheist tour, and we were still in fine form indeed. Only one problem though. You see, after not playing for a few days, we get a little anxious, especially after doing a long run of shows, you kind of get in the swing of things and then it all stops. So, usually it takes you a couple of warm up shows to get yourself in form but this was not the case for us.

In fact, I got so hyped up before the show ( which I do to myself ), when it came time to get onstage, I couldn't help but to cut sick. Even though there were only 40 or so people there, I thrashed out so hard, I nearly broke my neck…
I went with my brother David (LEGEND) to the Physiotherapist the next day, as I could hardly even walk, let alone get out of fuckin`bed!! Lucky I went to see them, or else this would have been the shortest tour for us in history!! He told me I should take it easy and stop headbanging and jumping around so much. Yeah Right!!
